Why They Work Better

  • Lower Cost - Curtains cost much less than building permanent walls with drywall or panels.
  • Flexible Work Areas - Divide the shop into sections so that painting, sanding, and other tasks can all happen at the same time without getting in each other's way.
  • Cleaner Air - Keeps dust, overspray, and fumes inside the booth area, which makes the shop a safer and more comfortable place to work.
  • Easy to move around - since the curtains are retractable, you can easily get in the production area and it is easy to close as well as needed.
  • Meets Safety Standards- Materials are fire-rated and meet required safety regulations.
  • Quick Installation - They are easy to install and won't disrupt your production for the whole day just to get it set up. It can also be moved around to fit the needs of our work area.

Built to Last

Here’s what makes these curtains hold up in busy shop conditions:

  • Made with tough 18 oz coated vinyl that stands up to daily shop use.
  • Uses 16-gauge galvanized steel hardware, so it won’t rust out quickly.
  • Curtains slide open and shut easily on rolling hooks.
  • Edges are reinforced with extra stitching so they don’t wear out as fast.
  • A polyester scrim layer inside the vinyl adds strength and helps stop tearing.

Installation

Setting up the paint booth curtain tracks is fast and straightforward. When your curtains arrive, just unbox them and follow the included instructions. The track hardware connects together in a modular design, and the roller hooks slide in easily. Once the track is mounted, simply attach the curtains using the grommets along the top. It’s a quick and hassle-free process.

Maintaining The Curtains

The paint spray curtains are made from a slick vinyl material similar to a shower curtain. They are easy to maintain, just wipe them clean when dusty or wash them down if they get dirty. For tougher stains, a mild cleaning agent can be used. The material is mildew-resistant and holds up well against most chemicals. If a tear occurs, clear patch tape is available for quick repairs.

Aluminum Dust

Aluminum dust is now part of new car frames and dealing with that dust is now a critical consideration for auto-body shops. The processing of these aluminum body cars and trucks requires a completely sealed off area. Our aluminum repair enclosure curtains will divide these work areas where grinding is taking place from the rest of the shop.

Filter Panels

The AKON body shop curtains can also feature filter panels in sizes of 4′ x 4′ or 4′ x 2′ to allow for negative pressure generated inside of the curtain enclosure due to ventilation systems. These replaceable paint filters Velcro onto the curtain and can be replaced if they become too clogged to function.

Frequently Asked Questions

Paint and spray booth curtains offer a smart way to control overspray, dust, and fumes during painting jobs. These curtains create a clean zone around the work area while allowing the rest of the shop to stay in use. They pull back out of the way when not needed and close into place when the job is underway. The vinyl material holds up well against paint mist and airborne particles. In this FAQ section readers will find answers about how well the curtains block overspray, how durable the material is, and what mounting choices work best for different shop layouts.

Paint and Spray Booth Curtains – Frequently Asked Questions

What are paint and spray booth curtains used for?

Yes — they’re used to contain paint overspray, dust, debris and other contaminants within a defined work zone. These curtains help protect surrounding areas, equipment and floors from coating, cleaning and particle spread.

How do spray booth curtains compare to solid walls?

No — they’re not solid walls. Instead they offer flexible, customizable separation, cost less than permanent walls, and can be repositioned or removed for access and versatility.

What materials are used in paint booth curtains?

Yes — they are commonly manufactured from heavy-duty vinyl or reinforced PVC with optional clear vision panels. These materials are selected for their durability and resistance to spray, chemicals and cleaning cycles.

Are these curtains fire-resistant?

Yes — many paint booth curtains meet fire-retardant standards (such as NFPA) and are designed for use in automotive or industrial paint and spray environments.

Do paint booth curtains help maintain cleanliness?

Yes — by restricting the spread of paint, solvent mist, sanding dust and other particles, they help keep adjacent work zones cleaner and safer.

Can these curtains be custom-sized?

Yes — widths, heights, corner configurations, clear windows, track systems, and hardware are all customizable to match your specific paint booth layout.

Do velvet windows or clear panels come included?

Yes — clear vinyl or PVC panels can be integrated to offer visibility, lighting and safe oversight while still maintaining separation of the spray zone.

Can the curtains be retractable or sliding?

Yes — many installations use ceiling tracks, rollers or sliding hardware so curtains can be moved out of the way when access is required, improving workflow.

Are paint and spray booth curtains easy to install?

Yes — installation typically involves mounting hardware or track systems and basic tools. Many systems allow quick setup and future re-configuration.

Are these curtains waterproof and chemical-resistant?

Yes — vinyl and PVC materials used are resistant to moisture, solvents, overspray and frequent cleaning, making them well-suited for wash-down and coating operations.

Can these curtains handle heavy overspray or dust?

Yes — when specified appropriately they include reinforced hems, anchored bottoms and optional weights or straps to manage heavy spray, particulate or air movement.

How do I maintain and clean spray booth curtains?

Use mild soap and water, rinse regularly, and inspect tracks and hardware for smooth movement. Avoid abrasive cleaners that might damage the vinyl or clear panels.

Are replacement parts available?

Yes — you can replace individual curtain panels, vision strips or hardware components without the need to remove the entire curtain system.

What is the expected lifespan for spray booth curtains?

With proper care and usage, spray booth curtains typically last many years. Actual lifespan depends on environmental exposure, spray volume and maintenance frequency.

Do spray booth curtains reduce cost compared to building walls?

Yes — they are a cost-effective alternative to permanent walls and partitions, offering flexible layout and easier expansion or repositioning at a lower expense.

Are there sanitary or food-safe options available?

Yes — some models are designed with food-grade vinyl, antimicrobial coatings and clear panels intended for hygienic or clean-room-adjacent operations.

Can these curtains be used for large or high-ceiling spray booths?

Yes — they can be built to fit high ceilings, large spans and complex layouts, with optional corner tracks and multi-panel configurations to suit your facility.

Will spray booth curtains improve worker safety?

Yes — by containing hazards like overspray, dust, slip-risk from drips and cross-contamination, these curtains help maintain safe and organized work zones.

Can these curtains be integrated with ventilation and filtration systems?

Yes — they work in tandem with exhaust systems, filters and air-handling equipment to help control airflow in the spray booth while maintaining separation and containment.

Are these curtains suitable for other industries beyond automotive?

Yes — they’re used in metal finishing, aerospace, manufacturing, marine coatings, powder coating and any environment requiring containment of spray, dust or particulate.

Curtain Features

Clear Vision Panels

Vision panels can be added to allow for a clear line of sight through the curtain. Standard vision panels are 54" in height but can be made to any size.

Curtain Valances

A valance is made from the same material as the lower curtain. They are used to seal the opening above the curtain. This is generally the space from the roof deck to the bottom of the joist or purling. They can be rectangular or follow the slope of the roof.

Floor Sweeps

A floor sweep seals the open area between the curtain and the floor. It attaches to the main curtain by Velcro. They are 6″ tall and as wide as the entire length of the curtain. These are ideal for controlling dust, fumes, odors and other undesirable elements. They can also be replaced in the future should the friction from the floor wear them out.

Anchor Straps

Velcro straps hold your curtain in place if a breeze or if a more secure curtain is needed. These anchors feature Velcro straps that loop through a D-ring, which is anchored into the cement floor. Typically spaced every 4'.

Seal Velcro

Seal Velcro, also known as adhesive Velcro, sticks onto your curtain and can be installed in the field. Please note that this is not ideal for cold temperature applications or high-frequency use.

Chain Weights

If you have a slight breeze or are power washing near the curtain, then we can add a galvanized 3/16" chain weight to the bottom of the curtain.

Connecting Curtains

Velcro

Velcro is used to connect curtain sections together to form larger curtain walls. The Velcro also serves as an access point for larger curtains and makes them easier to install.

Magnets

Seal magnets are an ideal way to attach curtains to each other or adjacent steel walls and beams. Best utilized in dusty areas that would clog up
Velcro.

Entry Options

Sewn-In Strip Doors

Strip doors that are sewn into the curtain are ideal for light foot traffic. This allows for quick movement of people into and out of the industrial curtains.

Free-Standing Strip Doors

For motorized traffic, a free-standing steel frame strip door is ideal. The steel frame takes the stress off of the curtain wall, ensuring longevity and performance for motor traffic and high use.

Swinging Impact Doors

A free-standing industrial swinging door can also be provided for access. Also known as impact doors, these heavy-duty doors can take a lot of abuse from carts, forklifts, or heavy foot traffic. View Styles

Roll-Up Doors

Supported with a free-standing steel frame, the power roll-up doors can be opened and closed via remote from a forklift. Door styles and prices vary based on the frequency of opening and closing, speed requirements and size. View Styles

Common Layouts

AKON can supply just about any layout you can think of. Below are some common styles. They can be single sided, double-sided, triple sided, four-sided or multiple straights to create complete enclosures. You simply inform AKON about your desired design and we will have it fabricated exactly as you need it. For customized layouts, sketch your design and upload it using our online RFQ form. See button below.

How to Measure

Width

  • Measure the distance that you are trying to cover
    • We will generally add 5% to this dimension to give your curtain proper drape.
    • When you receive your quote, the hardware width will be the actual width.

Height

  • Measure the distance from the floor to the mounting point
    • We will subtract 3" to account for the hardware to keep your curtain just off of the ground.
      • If you want the floor sweep option, we also subtract the 3". This will allow the floor sweep to lay slightly on the floor while the main curtain is just off of the floor.
      • If you have a sloped ceiling please provide us with the high point height and the low point height. We will assume it is a linear straight slope. More Info On Here On Slope Ceilings

Common Questions

What is the spacing from the bottom of the track to the top of the curtain?
Standard curtains have approximately 3.75 to 1″ of a gap from the bottom of the track to the top of the curtain.

Spacing from Track

What are the dimensions of the track?

Can the track be cut to size on site?
Yes, the track is made to be field cut on site using a hack saw or Sawzall.

How much width does the radius corner add to the length?
The radius corner is 24” diameter. The radius corner will add 2 feet to each dimension.
For example, if you have 120” of curtain track then a radius corner will be make the overall length of side “A” 120”+24”=144”

How does the track go together?
The track is modular in design and will arrive in pieces that have a simple bolt together design.

How close together do I need the track supports?
The track should be supported approximately every 5' with a track support. The farther apart the track supports, the greater the deflection. If you have a relatively short in height curtain then you could space the supports out a little farther. You will receive enough track supports with your order to achieve this 5' spacing.

Can I simply drill straight through the track and into the ceiling / structure?
Yes. This is called a flush mount install and is very common. Simply drill through the middle of the track and use a small wood screw, bolt, Tek screw...ect into your structure. Space the holes about every 3-5'.

How hard is it to install the industrial curtain track?
It is very easy. All of the components simply fit into each other and connect with set screws. The installation is very intuitive. If you have any difficulty simply call or email us and we will walk you through the process.

Will the track rust? Can it be used in wet environments?
The track is Hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) which is often used to protect steel from corrosion in some of the harshest environments imaginable, yet it provides maintenance-free longevity for decades. The corrosion resistance of hot-dip galvanizing varies according to its surroundings but generally corrodes at a rate of 1/30 of bare steel in the same environment.
