Sound Absorbing Rating

• 14oz Velour – NRC 0.55 (absorbs ~55% of sound)
• 21oz Velour – NRC 0.60 (absorbs ~60% of sound)
• 27oz Velour – NRC 0.60 (absorbs ~65% of sound)

All NRC values above are measured with the fabric hung flat. When curtains are hung with 50% fullness (pleated style), absorption improves significantly from the above ratings due to the increased surface area.

What These Curtains Do (and Don’t Do)

While they don’t offer complete soundproofing, they significantly cut down on echo and soften ambient noise. That means loud sounds like heavy machinery or bass vibrations might still be heard, but their sharpness is dulled. These curtains aren’t about total silence; they’re about creating better acoustics and a more pleasant atmosphere without compromising the look and feel of your space.

Examples of Sound Blocking

When trying to reduce equipment noise, most people simply say they want it “quieter” without knowing how much reduction theyactually need. These audio clips demonstrate what different decibel reductions actually sound like using real machine noise — so you can hear the difference, not just read about it.

🔊 Machine Noise (Original)
This is the unaltered recording of the machine at full volume. It serves as the reference sound to compare against the reduced versions.

🔉 3 dB Reduction
Slight Change. A 3 dB drop reduces the perceived volume by about 18%. This change is minimal and only slightly noticeable to the average ear.

🔉 6 dB Reduction
Clearly Noticeable. Reducing the noise by 6 dB results in roughly a 34% decrease in perceived loudness. Most people can easily hear the difference at this level.

🔉 10 dB Reduction
Sounds Half as Loud. A 10 dB reduction cuts the perceived sound by 50%. This is a significant drop that makes the machine sound much quieter.

🔉 20 dB Reduction
Major Difference. With a 75% decrease in perceived volume, this level of reduction delivers a dramatic change and makes the machine sound far less intrusive.

Width

• Measure the distance that you are trying to cover, and then input that dimension and enter it into the width box.

Height

• Measure the distance from the floor to the mounting point above (from where you would attach the curtain track) and subtract 1 to 3 inches, and then input it into the height box.
• TIP - 1" will have the curtain just touching the floor and 3" will result in the curtain being off the floor a few inches. For optimal sound absorption, it is recommended that the material touch the floor.
• TIP - If you are not using any hardware, then you don't need to subtract the 3"

Common Questions

• Standard curtains have approximately 3.75 to 1″ of a gap from the bottom of the track to the top of the curtain.

What are the dimensions of the track?

• Yes, the track is made to be field cut on site using a hack saw or sawzall.

• The track is modular in design and will arrive in pieces that have a simple bolt-together design.

• The track should be supported approximately every 5' with a track support. The farther apart the track supports, the greater the deflection. You will receive enough track supports with your order to achieve this 5' spacing.

• Yes. This is called a flush mount install and is very common. Simply drill through the middle of the track and use a small wood screw, bolt, Tek screw, etc., into your structure. Space the holes about every 3-5'.

• It is very easy. All of the components simply fit into each other and connect with set screws. The installation is very intuitive. If you have any difficulty, simply call or email us and we will walk you through the process.
